If you’re a MacBook or vintage PowerBook user then you’re probably already familiar with Waterfield Designs, the San Francisco-based company that makes all its bags in its local factory. They’re not cheap, but they’re damn good. I own one of their Racer-X bags with the mountain bike grip on the handle. It’s been through hell and back and still looks new.
With that in mind, you might want to consider Waterfield Designs when you’re begin looking for a case for you newly acquired Apple iPad. The company announced two yesterday: The Ultimate Sleeve Case and The Suede Jacket. Full descriptions and gallery after the jump.
The Ultimate Sleeve Case protects the iPad using high-grade neoprene on the inside and “nearly indestructible” ballistic nylon on the outside. If that’s not enough, it also has a an impact-resistant screen protecting insert and a screen-cleaning Ultrasuede lining to help keep your grubby fingerprints off the screen. It can be used as a standalone case – complete with it’s own external pouch (optional) – or inserted into a briefcase or bag. Choose which style you want: Vertical or Horizontal insertion, then add a bunch of options like the aforementioned pocket, carrying strap and even a bit of smart looking leather at the bottom. Prices start at $55 USD.
The iPad Suede Jack will help prevent scratches and dings but is designed more for insertion into another briefcase or bag rather than a standalone case. The Ultrasuede material helps keep your screen clean and can even be ordered with an optional externa mesh pocket for storing whatever iPad accessories your may acquire. It’s $19, $25 if decide to spring for the mesh pocket.
