Uncommon to Release Custom iPad Cases

Uncommon iPad Capsule CaseThe crew from case maker Uncommon promised to release a custom product for the iPad on January 27th and sure enough, it looks like they may be ready for the iPad launch.

If you don’t know about Uncommon, you should.

The company creates truly custom cases for the iPhone 3G/3GS and soon, for the iPod Touch, BlackBerry Storm II and iPad.

The creation and ordering process is simple:

  1. Choose your case. All are made from impact-resistant polymers to protect your device.
  2. Upload your image or choose one from their gallery. The Uncommon Customizer enables you to position, scale and rotate the artwork.
  3. The blank case goes into production and ships shortly afterward. Uncommon has an “exclusive 3D TATT™ (Thermo-Active Transdermal Technology) printing process” that transfers the ink deep into the case’s surface. I haven’t seen or touched one yet, but apparently, this is not like screen printing – supposedly, it won’t wear off.

So far, their cases appear to be made of a two piece construction with a larger top piece and a smaller one that connects from the bottom. (If you’ve seen any of the cases from InCase or Seidio, you’ll know exactly how they work.) Based on the brief specs, it looks like the Uncommon iPad case will work the same way:

  • Two-piece Capsule Case design surrounds your iPad for ultimate protection
  • Reinforced impact zones
  • Shatterproof polycarbonate construction
  • Easy-access button covers

No word on pricing yet, but you can sign up to be notified when the iPad Capsule Case is available for order on their Products page.
