The folks at Zinio are giving away a dozen or so iPads to celebrate the launch of their upcoming iPad app. The app will let you read thousands of magazine titles in digital format on the device.
There’s more than one way to win one of these iPads, though. You can make a YouTube video, tweet about it on Twitter or become a fan of Zinio on Facebook. While you have an opportunity to win using any of the above methods (all are free, of course) you’ll get the biggest bang for your buck using YouTube.
For every unique view that your video receives, you’re granted another entry into the giveaway and another chance to win. (Think about it: if Susan Boyle’s video counted as an entry, she’d have 89,351,934 chances to win.)
You can do the same. (Albeit maybe not as melodious as she.)
For those who don’t know Zinio, they’re “The World’s Largest Newsstand” bringing you thousands of magazine titles from all over the world available in digital format. You can check out some of their titles in your browser right now using their Flash app, or use their downloadable Adobe AIR app.
For instance, here’s Macworld as a digital title. While that’s pretty cool and I can’t wait to get it on my iPad, it’s nothing compared to the interactivity of VIV magazine, which I showed you last week. There’s also National Geographic, Dwell, Playboy, Maxim…and Woodworker’s Journal! (Hey – there’s riches in the niches: I was recently informed that WJ has a ginormous reader base, somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000.)
Now, these digital editions are all built in Flash. Since iPad doesn’t support Flash, the technologies in the Zinio iPad app will definitely be different but supposedly, the experience will be very similar and often times, even better.
Maybe they’ll employ the compiling tools in Adobe Flash Professional CS5 or bundle their own Flash runtime environment?
I’ll have more details on that as soon as they’re available.
Zinio for iPad will be available in April. The app is free from the App Store, but you’ll have to purchase individual magazine issues or subscriptions from Zinio. Free issues are occasionally available, so keep an eye open for them.
