iPad or Kindle?! Kindle or iPad?!
You no longer have to struggle with that decision as Amazon has revealed it’s plans for tablet computers, including the upcoming iPad.
Kindle for iPad takes advantage of the device’s large LED screen, allowing you to view your library in new and interesting ways. (It looks sort of like the iBooks bookshelf but then, that’s nothing really new, I guess.) Slow page turns are also a feature, letting you “flip” the page slowly with the digit of your choice.
Of course, there’s access to the Kindle store so you can buy and download books. Kindle for iPad continues to use Whispersync, allowing you to pick up where you left off on any of your registered Kindle devices.
This will include other tablets, as well. Given that Amazon already offers Kindle for Windows, they’re ready for the upcoming HP Slate. All they need now is Kindle for Android and they should be pretty well covered in the Tablet area.
For now, the choices of which systems to support should be pretty simple but with the myriad tablets being released in various flavors of hardware and software, it’s going to be difficult for a company like Amazon to keep up. Like the MP3 player market, I think we’ll ultimately see a shakeout, leaving one or two companies as the most widely accepted devices.
My bet is that iPad will by number one. Who will be number two?
