For me, one of the most exciting parts of the iPad introduction back in January of this year was when Phil Schiller gave demos of the iWork productivity suite for iPad. I wanted a device that would combine the functions of both my Kindle and my netbook and the iWork suite made that possible.
But after purchasing Keynote, Pages and Numbers, I found that they fell short in one key area: document management. The universal method for moving files between your desktop (Mac, in my case) and your iPad is iTunes and as many have lamented across the interwebs, it’s a pretty poor experience.
There’s no versioning and syncing seems less than intelligent, making it possible to overwrite your work on one device or the other. Short of document syncing in the cloud, Ecamm’s PadSync seems to ease my pain quite nicely.
Sonos introduced the Sonos Controller for iPad today.
The Sonos Controller for iPad is essentially a ginormous remote control for your Sonos ZonePlayers and features:
The Sonos Controller for iPad will be available for free in the App Store sometime in mid/late August. Of course, you’ll need a Sonos system to use it.
Amazon has updated their Universal Kindle App for iPad and iPhone. The iPad gets the addition of bigger fonts and more font sizes along with easier and faster navigation between home and archived items on iPad.
The iPhone gets the ability to search inside the book – iPad users will have to wait for this feature.
Have you seen the Zinio app for iPad and iPhone? Have you seen the gazillions of digital magazines that the app lets you read anytime, anywhere?

The iPad app has been downloaded so often that it was the #1 iPad News app in the App Store for weeks and has since remained in the Top 10. It’s also a top News app for the iPhone which, given the number of available of applications, is saying something.
Zinio has decided it’s time to celebrate – not just their excitement about being a popular app, but about Summer and all the reading you can do on the beach, in the country or just relaxing in your home.
As you probably expected, I carry a lot of gadgets with me. Because of that, I’ve always opted for small notebooks and subsequently, iBooks, PowerBooks and now MacBooks. I use a 13-inch MacBook (and soon, MacBook Pro) because it’s small, light and has great battery life.
When I’m in my office, I use an external display as my primary screen and my MacBook display as secondary. But when I’m on the road, I’m always disappointed by the amount of screen real estate I have to work with when using only the MacBook’s built-in display. So when I saw Air Display for the iPad, I had to give it a try.
Congratulations to Diane Bassette of Massachusetts!
She’s the first winner of an iPad from Zinio.

iPad or Kindle?! Kindle or iPad?!
You no longer have to struggle with that decision as Amazon has revealed it’s plans for tablet computers, including the upcoming iPad.
Kindle for iPad takes advantage of the device’s large LED screen, allowing you to view your library in new and interesting ways. (It looks sort of like the iBooks bookshelf but then, that’s nothing really new, I guess.) Slow page turns are also a feature, letting you “flip” the page slowly with the digit of your choice.
The folks at Zinio are giving away a dozen or so iPads to celebrate the launch of their upcoming iPad app. The app will let you read thousands of magazine titles in digital format on the device.
There’s more than one way to win one of these iPads, though. You can make a YouTube video, tweet about it on Twitter or become a fan of Zinio on Facebook. While you have an opportunity to win using any of the above methods (all are free, of course) you’ll get the biggest bang for your buck using YouTube.
The gang at Agile Web Solutions trotted out screenshots of their excellent 1Password software for the iPad – and it’s purty!
I use 1Password on my Mac and on my iPhone and while both are excellent, Agile wanted to make sure that iPad owners had a first class experience and not just an pixel-double version of the iPhone software. Thanks, guys!
